Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new version of its budget-friendly Apple Watch SE later this year, marking its first significant update since the second-generation model debuted in 2022.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the third-generation Apple Watch SE will feature a refreshed design. This follows the company’s usual pattern of offering new models of its wearable devices, including the anticipated Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. These models are expected to build on the Series 10 and Ultra 2 models released in 2024 and 2023, respectively, with minimal changes to their designs but potential new features.
One of the more significant changes in the new Apple Watch SE could be a shift from its traditional aluminum casing to a plastic construction. Although the design for the Series 11 and Ultra 3 is not expected to see major overhauls, both of these high-end watches may come with exciting new functionality. Gurman notes that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 could include satellite connectivity and support for the 5G RedCap network, while both the Ultra 3 and Series 11 will likely introduce high blood pressure detection.
Along with these hardware updates, Apple is also working on revamping its health app, introducing an AI-based coaching service, and adding new capabilities for AirPods. These features could bring even more value to users looking for a comprehensive health and fitness experience.
The new Apple Watch SE, along with the Series 11 and Ultra 3, is expected to launch in September alongside the iPhone 17 series. While specific details about the SE’s specs remain under wraps, early rumors suggest that it will come in a variety of color options, and the new plastic construction could make it a lighter and more affordable choice for users.
For reference, the Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen), released in September 2022, started at ₹29,900 in India. It boasted a Retina OLED display, the S8 processor, and features like crash detection, fall detection, cellular connectivity, an optical heart rate sensor, and emergency SOS. Additionally, the device is water-resistant up to 50 meters, making it a solid option for those seeking an affordable smartwatch with key health and safety features.
