Although Samsung has yet to unveil the Galaxy S25 series, rumors surrounding next year’s Galaxy S26 lineup are already surfacing.
A new report from Korea indicates that the tech giant is gearing up to introduce a significant display upgrade on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. According to the report, Samsung is focusing on making the display both thinner and brighter by incorporating Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology. This innovative display tech was previously utilized in some of the brand’s Galaxy Z Fold models.
A Brighter and More Efficient Display for the Galaxy S26 Ultra
As per The Elec’s report, Samsung plans to implement CoE technology in the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display, a move that would lower power consumption and improve light transmittance. The CoE tech replaces the traditional polarising plates in OLED panels with a color filter and modifies the Pixel Define Layer (PDL) to a black color.
This change removes the polariser layer, resulting in a thinner display while enhancing light transmittance and reducing power usage. Additionally, the black PDL prevents internal light reflection, boosting brightness levels. The colour filter, printed on a Thin-Film Encapsulation (TFE) layer, also offers protection against moisture and oxygen, contributing to the durability of the OLED screen.
S26 Ultra: A Trailblazer for Samsung’s Smartphone Displays
The Galaxy S26 Ultra could be the first non-foldable Samsung smartphone to feature this cutting-edge display technology. By leveraging CoE, the company aims to make the device thinner without sacrificing display quality. Samsung first introduced this technology in its foldable devices, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021, and continued its use with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 released last year.
As for the broader Galaxy S26 series, rumors suggest that the non-Ultra models may feature Samsung’s own Exynos chips, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon chipset.
